There are many aspects of Dutch culture and history that are a tad bit strange to me, but one of the oddest phenomenon has to lie within the apartments. I remember giving a homie an accolade during his housewarming party about how nice his wood floors were. “Yeah, we just finished putting them in last night.” “You what? Y’all installed your own floor? What the fuck?” Later I learned that most folks that move into rental properties have to do all sorts of Bob Vila shit because the place isn’t rented to them in a habitable condition. This is completely alien to me as an American, where property is supposed to be in a livable state upon the move-in date of the tenant. I have never heard anything like this before and I am really wondering how in the hell can this sort of thing be considered legal?
