This past week I have been lost in a tourist’s Amsterdam. Some friends of mine from the States are in town, so being the gracious host that I am, I have elected to show them around Amsterdam. Or, more specifically, Amsterdam as I know it. It is curious to me how subtle this city can be. What I mean by that is the best things in this city aren’t really advertised as such. Europe in general is far more aesthetically subtle than America. Back home we have huge illuminated signs that let even the blind know what lie within. Here, you sort of have to walk around and be a tad bit adventurous. The places in this city that are most attractive to the eye are usually the most detrimental to the wallet and the least fulfilling to the intellect…
