One of my favorite bars in town is Basis on Vijzelgracht. Located right on the corner of the Keizersgracht, Basis serves as a perfect alternate universe of gezelliheid, just off from the busy intersection. They don’t prepare food, but you can bring your own meal or order food to be delivered there. They have a predilection towards Belgian beers, which think is a good thing. They also have a very close bond with the art world, so the bar is adorned with some gorgeous pieces by some talented artists. At night they welcome a vast array of DJs, and honestly, the place jumps on the weekend. They welcomed us-The Donut Factory: J-Baggs,Alonzo Mooi and Dann Doyle-quite some time ago, and we have been enjoying playing tunes there ever since.
